Hello, I’m Janine and I am excited to be teaching DSC 10 this fall! I’m originally from New Jersey but I’ve been at UCSD for over ten years both as a graduate student in Math and as a faculty member in Computer Science and now Data Science. I love this course because it teaches you how to pose and answer interesting questions in any domain, so it really opens doors and allows you to dive into topics you’re passionate about.

I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦. This is my first quarter at UCSD; prior to moving to San Diego, I was a student at UC Berkeley, where I also taught data science. Teaching you about data science is my dream job, and I could not be more excited to meet you all. Outside of the classroom, you’ll find me learning how to cook, FaceTiming my dog back home, or watching basketball. Welcome! Oh, and click here for a surprise.

I’m born and raised in San Diego, earned my Bachelors in Statistics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am currently a CSE and Artificial Intelligence Masters student. This is my fourth time TAing for Professor Tiefenbruck, and my second time TAing for DSC 10. DSC 10 is such a fun class to TA for because the projects and assignments are fun and relevant to current events and I love getting to know other students. A random fact about me is I recently became an aunt and I’m a self proclaimed “fun aunt”.

Hi, I’m a sophomore majoring in Math & Statistics. I’m from China, and I went to a high school in Tennessee. It’s my first time to be a tutor, and as a tutor, I’m still in a learning process. The reason I applied for DSC10 is that students from different majors would choose it as a beginning coding course, and I’m glad to meet you and help you.

Hi everyone! My name is Dylan (but I also go by Dyl for short), and I’m a third year Data Science major and Cognitive Science minor from Sixth College! This will be my fourth time tutoring for DSC 10, and I’m especially excited since this will be my first time tutoring in-person. I am also a student representative on behalf of the HDSI program here at UCSD, so please don’t be afraid to reach out about anything regarding this class in particular, or just the Data Science major in general! A little bit about myself is that I’m originally from Orange County, CA, and outside of class I love skateboarding, shopping, and sports (basketball/tennis)!

Hi, I am Du! I am a senior studying Data Science here at UCSD. This is my second time tutoring DSC10, and I believe this will be a really fun class to start in the field of data science. I am excited to meet you guys and feel free to ask any questions about the class or anything. During my free time, I like to play acoustic guitar and listen to some jazz music. Feel free to share your music albums to me as well!

I’m Sam, a PhD student in Cog Sci. To study what students find tricky when writing data science code, I’m holding extra OH for DSC 10. I think of it as a win-win: I help with your assignments, and you can help me see what challenges you face in learning data science. I have 5 years of experience TA’ing for data science courses, instructed the Intro to Data Science course at UC Berkeley, and am writing a textbook on data science.
Hope to see you in office hours!
