Hello, I’m Janine and I am excited to be teaching DSC 40A this quarter! I’m originally from New Jersey but I’ve been at UCSD for over ten years both as a graduate student in Math and as a faculty member in Computer Science and now Data Science. I love this course because it gives you a sense of the power of data science in solving real-world problems and it shows you interesting applications of all that math you’ve spent so many years learning!

TA

I’m born and raised in San Diego, earned my Bachelors in Statistics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am currently a CSE and Artificial Intelligence Masters student. This is my fifth time TAing for Professor Tiefenbruck, and my third time TAing for DSC 40A. DSC 40A is fun class to TA for because it teaches you the math behind some cool machine learning algorithms (for example, how gradient descent works) and I love getting to meet new people. A random fact about me is I recently became an aunt and I’m a self proclaimed “fun aunt”.

Hello! My name is Harry and I am a Second Year from majoring in Applied Mathematics and minoring in Data Science. I was born in Seoul, South Korea but moved to Hong Kong when I was 10, so I call both cities my home. I am excited to tutor DSC 40A this quarter because it was my favourite class in the UCSD DSC programme so far. I am an avid sports fan, including Esports, love talking and debating about them!

Hi everyone! I’m Oren, a third year student double majoring in Data Science and Economics. I’m originally from San Jose, California, and in my spare time I enjoy playing basketball, cooking, and exploring the city with my friends. When I took DSC 40A, tutors and TA’s helped me to understand concepts that I never thought I could, and I’m super excited to have the opportunity to offer that same help to you! Looking forward to working with you all :)

Hi there! My name is Wenqi Sun (Preferred name: Clara), fourth year Marshall college student with major in Joint Major of Mathematics & Economics and minor in Data Science. DSC40A has been my favorite Data Science class and I believe it’s a good foundation for the further learning. Fun fact about me - I’m learning to make various desserts these days and am gaining weights (happily) :)

Hi everyone! I am a senior double majoring in Applied Math and Data Science from Guangzhou China. I am glad to relearn the fundamentals with you all, since advance models all build up from simple ideas in DSC 40A. Besides, feel free to chat with me on ML, especially on Quantitative Investment topics. I have a lot of fun things about my recent intern to share.
