Sam Lau is an assistant teaching professor in the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego. His research creates novel interfaces for learning and teaching data science, including the popular Pandas Tutor tool (https://pandastutor.com/) which serves over 40,000 people per year. He is the author of an introductory data science textbook called Learning Data Science, published by O’Reilly Media in 2023.

Hi everyone! I’m Giorgia, a second year graduate student in HDSI. I’m originally from San Diego and loved it so much I had to come back for grad school! Outside of academics I spend most of my time making memories with friends, trying new restaurants, and have hopped on the pickleball trend. Hello! My name is Dylan and I’m a second year master’s student studying data science! I was born and raised right near Seattle, and went to the University of Washington for my bachelor’s. I have been a TA here at UCSD before, but I have never taught DSC 80 so I’m excited to go into the more complicated material that we have. In my free time I train in MMA and love to workout in general, so if you see me at RIMAC say hi!

Hi, I’m John Chen! I’m currently a 4th year student majoring in Bioinformatics with a minor in Data Science. I found DSC 80 to be the most useful lower division course and I am excited to be a tutor for DSC 80. Outside of classes, I like getting boba, playing cello, and skiing. I took DSC 80 during my second year, and it truly piqued my interest in this fascinating field.
