Truong Son Hy

Dr. Truong Son Hy is a Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer at the Halicioglu Data Science Institute of University of California, San Diego. He obtained a PhD and a MSc in Computer Science from The University of Chicago. He earned a BSc in Computer Science from Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary with a full scholarship from the Hungarian government. His research focuses on graph neural networks, deep generative models on graphs, multiresolution matrix factorization, graph wavelets, group equivariant and multiscale hierarchical models for the purpose of modeling, learning and generating graphs.
Mahdi Soleymani

Hi my name is Mahdi Soleymani. I am a postdoctoral scholar at HDSI, and my research interest lies in the intersection of machine learning and information theory. I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2014 and 2016, respectively, and my Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 2022, all in electrical engineering. I am passionate about doing fundamental research and teaching theoretical courses, and I am fortunate to be one of the instructors of DSC 40A this semester. I enjoy listening to music, reading books, and hiking in my free time. I am looking forward to meeting you in the class.

Hey everyone! I am a Senior from Delhi, India majoring in Data Science. This will be my 3rd time tutoring 40A which is my favorite class at UCSD and I hope you feel the same way by the end of the quarter. Outside the classroom, I am an avid sports fan - particularly Tennis, Cricket and Chess(Yes, Chess is a sport!). I enjoy using Data as a tool to develop strategies in sport and in other aspects of daily life, I look forward to helping equip you all with the skills to do the same.
